Body Narratives Collective Performs “Tracing Traces”

Tracing Traces is a collaboration between the Body Narratives Collective (dance artists Siobhan Sloane- Seale, Meghan Goodman and Julia Carr) and painter, engineer, and photographer Even Oldridge.  This work is an investigation into storytelling, dance and photography.

We will share stories that have helped us to grow, learning from our fears, confusions, and inhibitions in the hopes that this information will inspire other people along their journey through the unpredictability of life.  We feel that it is important to illuminate stories that might be emotionally difficult to hear, but to balance this with humor, wit, and stories that provide levity in our day-to-day lives.

The other meaning of Tracing Traces is quite literal.  In performance we set up a still camera in a darkened room and open the shutter for approximately one minute.  The performer and/or light sources dance in front of the camera as a story is revealed, contrasting movement with stillness.  We will be using hand-held light sources to expose the dancer(s) and/or props in space, creating striking, luminescent light paintings.  The images created in the moment will support our selected stories.  These photographs will be projected for the audience to view, adding a visual layer to the movement and text.

Tracing Traces will be presented as part of the BC Buds Spring Arts Fair:

Friday May 21st and Saturday May 22nd from 8:40-9:00pm, in the Firehall studio, second floor.

Admission is free.

The festival is on all weekend, check out http://www.firehallartscentre.ca for more info.

Tracing Traces will also be presented at the “In The House Festival” 9pm on Saturday June 5th.

The Body Narratives Collective would like to thank Mascall Dance and EDAM for their support.

Spring Yoga Classes

Welcome spring back with yoga:

After a busy winter season of performing I’m settling back into my teaching routine and am excited to share all of the wonderful knowledge I am gaining through my Iyengar yoga training.

Schedule is as follows:

Monday evenings at Green Room Yoga:

6-7:15pm Women’s Hatha Yoga (new class)

Meghan’s Hatha class is appropriate for newer yoga students as well as students who would like to fine-tune their poses. In this class, one can expect to work through the poses at a slightly slower pace, taking the time to learn how to make the asanas both comfortable and stable. These classes focus on opening the hips and shoulders, strengthening the legs, spine and core.

7:30-9pm Hatha Flow

Meghan’s Hatha Flow class is both energizing and calming. She incorporates alignment principles from her studies of Iyengar Yoga into sun salutations, flowing sequences of standing poses, core strengthening, seated and reclining poses. As the students progress, she introduces the challenge and playfulness of arm balances and inversions. This class in geared towards yoga students with some experience who would like to work on their strength, flexibility and alignment.

Upcoming Free Aeriosa Dance Performances, March 2010

In Situ Performance Times:

10pm – Wednesday, March 17th
10pm – Thursday, March 18th

8 pm – Friday, March 19th
8pm – Saturday, March 20th

In Situ is inspired by physical expression, engagement with the environment and societal contrasts – themes that permeate Vancouver’s cultural landscape and shape urban life on the West Coast.

In Situ takes place at Vancouver’s Central Library, the serene grandeur of Library Square setting the scene for dynamic interaction between dancers, musicians and Moshe Safdie’s striking architectural design.  Artists from Aeriosa and the Vertical Orchestra work three-dimensionally, presenting suspended dance and original spatial music throughout the venue at various heights. The show begins indoors in the Promenade, flows outdoors to the North Plaza and ends on the colonnades of the South Plaza.  As the performance unfolds audiences will be enticed to move through the building led by artists and guides who will interact with them along the way.

In Situ is a 50-minute performance.
If you require special assistance to help you enjoy this show please send an email to info@aeriosa.com
