Performance of Tracing Traces on Granville Island Saturday January 29th

Tracing Traces combines storytelling with dance and photography. In a darkened room the performers dance to create striking, luminescent light paintings. The photographs are projected for the audience to view, adding a visual layer to the movement and text. This work was created by Body Narratives, a dance-based collective with an interdisciplinary focus, featuring members Julia Carr, Siobhan Sloane-Seale and Meghan Goodman, in collaboration with artist/engineer Even Oldridge.

The piece is 15 minutes long and show times are 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, (break), 9pm and 9:30pm on Saturday Jan 29th.

Tickets: $5-10 sliding scale

Location: 1405 Anderson Street, Granville Island

(Unfortunately, this venue is not wheelchair accessible and requires audience members to climb two flights of stairs.)
This is an intimate space, so come a little early to make sure you can find the space and get a ticket.

***Also I will be performing a pop-up aerial dance with Aeriosa on Granville Island during the Winterruption Festival on February 26th and 27th. Times TBA. Hope to see you then.

Through the use of props such as straps, blocks, blankets, and bolsters, this method allows students to find better mobility and steadiness in their practice.

Iyengar yoga emphasizes the importance of inverted poses and works with preparations for each student at their appropriate levels. The Level 1 Iyengar class offered at East Side yoga is a good introduction for students new to yoga, new to Iyengar yoga, and those wanting to deepen their understanding of the poses, gain strength, agility and improved focus.

An Interdisciplinary Arts Performance at the Sustenance:Feasting on Art & Culture Festival
A Mother Tongue Media & Roundhouse Partnership

A cross-section of Vancouver’s finest professional and emerging, contemporary and traditional, multicultural artists will perform in a conducted improvisation following a series of four meetings. As part of the Sustenance: Feasting on Art & Culture Festival, this eighth installment of ANU will explore the theme of HUNGER. When the spotlight shines on one or more music, dance, spoken word or visual artists, this is their call to enter the narrative according to their discipline and the moment. Artists never know when the light will shine on them. They surrender to the Light, to their own self, and eventually to each other as they walk the collaborative path towards unity.

Aeriosa performs new trio at the ReImagine Art Festival in Penticton: September 24th at 7pm, 8:30pm and 10pm

ReImagine Art Festival

Photographer Grant Gettens

Explore. Create. ReImagine.

We’re pleased to bring back – and expand – the ReImagine Art Festival, which began in 2009 with an explosion of mural art in the downtown core.

This year’s festival will take place over two days, September 24 and 25, giving our muralists more time to create, and giving us more time to celebrate and reimagine arts and culture in Penticton. Friday will be highlighted by a performance by Aeriosa Dance Society. But this isn’t just any dance – they will be performing on an exterior wall of the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Dance, reimagined.

Choreographed by Julia Taffe

Dancers: Julia Carr, Meghan Goodman and Keely Sills

“Barb Haynes, executive-director of the Downtown Penticton Association, said she‘s delighted with the public response to the ReImagine festival. The event was expanded to two days and included more than just street art.

Of particular appeal was the mid-air presentation by the Aeriosa dance troupe from Vancouver, hanging off the roof of the Penticton Lakeside Resort on Friday night. Their three performances drew huge crowds to the hotel‘s patio area.

‘All of the dancers are trained contemporary dancers, horizontally and vertically suspended by ropes on the side of the building. It‘s absolutely amazing to watch.’ Haynes said. ‘We‘ll look forward to bringing them back next year.'”

SERENDIPITY

Open Rehearsals: August 30th & 31st – 1:30 to 3:30 pm
Performances: September 1st – 12 pm, 1 pm & 2 pm
FREE
Vancouver Block Building, 736 Granville Street

(at the City Centre Station of the Canada Line)

Next week, for the first time, Aeriosa performers will dance on the Vancouver Block, a designated heritage building near the intersection of Granville and West Georgia.

Built in 1912, this art nouveau high-rise is easily identified by its crowning architecture – a four-sided clock tower illuminated in neon lights at night.

Julia Taffe will be creating new choreography for six dancers suspended from ropes on the north, west and south walls of the building to culminate in three performance presentations of Serendipity on Sept 1, 2010.

All are welcome to this free event.

Aeriosa in Banff

Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work in putting together the opening ceremony for the beautiful new Kinnear Centre. We had a great time performing on the inside and outside of the new building.

Check out some video and press on this show:

“No sooner had several politicos been introduced and plaques unveiled, than the seven crimson-clad women comprising Vancouver-based Aeriosa Dance (all Banff Centre alumnae, we were told) lowered themseves over two adjacent glass sides of the Kinnear and — to an appropriately percussive score — proceeded to execute a gravity-defying choreography that made the walls uncannily seem like floors”

Yoga in the Park

Summer has finally arrived!

I’ve just returned from a wonderful dance contract in Banff, where we got to celebrate the opening of the new Kinnear arts centre by dancing on its walls, for a prince no less.

Now that things have settled a little, I’d like to offer some opportunities to practice yoga in the park in August, beginning in the second week.

I’ll be teaching Monday night’s at 7pm: August 9th, 16th and 23rd

and

Thursday mornings at 10am: August 12th, 19th and 26th

If you can come to any of these classes, you are most welcome. It is drop-in and by donation.

We’ll be meeting at Trout Lake Park by the beach/concession stand and finding an appropriate spot from there.

Come a few minutes early and feel free to stay after, bring a snack and hang out.

Bring your mat, water and any props you like (although I’ll be teaching mostly flow classes, so they will not be prop heavy).

Lastly, if its pouring rain, class will be canceled.

Any question, please feel free to contact me, and please pass this along to anyone you think might also be interested in participating.

I look forward to some outdoor yoga with you.

Best,

Meghan Goodman

COPY : July 18th-20th at the Roundhouse

Copy is a multi-disciplinary and participatory installation that explores duplication, mimicry, and degeneration. The piece reorganizes traditional expectations of theatre and lobby spaces, proposes a co-creation between both performers and viewers, and addresses the excessive duplication that is integral to the nature of our digital culture. Rather than a succession of predetermined imagery and movements, Copy is an ephemeral series of fragmented communications between bodies and screens.

Conceived by dance artist Justine A. Chambers and video artist Josh Hite.

Created with: James Proudfoot, Dennis Rosenfeld, Meghan Goodman, Vanessa Goodman, Katy Harris-Mcleod, Jane Osborne, Laura Avery, Molly McDermott, Ahmed Kahlil and Deanna Peters.

Summer Yoga Classes

Summer is slowly arriving, and with it, an exciting  time to practice yoga. For those of us who have been practicing all year, this is the time when the fruits of our labor blossom. With the warmth, sunshine and fresh air comes new openings, new awareness, stability and strength. For those who have had difficulty finding consistency in their practice, summer is a lovely time to work on it. With more light we can practice earlier in the morning or later in the evening, we can bring our practice outdoors to the beach, the park, the backyard, or the top of a mountain.

I will be teaching an outdoor yoga class in Trout Lake Park beginning in July…details to follow, if you have any day/time preference please let me know. These classes will be by donation.
