Aeriosa returns to the UBC Botanical Garden

The Greenheart Canopy Walkway is pleased to present Aeriosa at UBC Botanical Garden. This unique performance by the captivating vertical dance group, Aeriosa, incorporates a captivating fusion of rock-climbing skill and contemporary dance movement set to music. Enjoy the performanace perched on viewing platforms high in the treetops while exploring Vancouver’s most exciting eco-adventure, the Greenheart Canopy Walkway.

Dancing with the Grand Firs

This creative process is about forming a relationship with living trees, learning to negotiate movement in a duet with another species, contemplating a different sense of time, place and way of being in the world. In other news, dance artist and BNC co-director Julia Carr and I are working on a new piece to premiere at the Firehall Arts Centre this coming Saturday May 10th as part of the BC Buds Spring Arts Festival. Weather permitting, we will be in the outdoor courtyard at 7:15pm and 8:30pm. It’s a wonderful by-donation festival celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this year.

Be graceful in the wind is a solo dance created for Julia Carr, choreographed by Meghan Goodman as a Body Narratives Collective (BNC) collaboration. Both Julia and Meghan had the privilege of dancing in the stunning treetop canopy of the Tofino Botanical Gardens with Aeriosa Dance Society in August 2013. This experience has inspired them to explore the spirit, magic and mystery of the forest. The music composed by Phil Thomson is an excerpt from Filled with Light (created with the IMP Collective through the generous support of the West Point Grey Community Centre, Vancouver Park Board and Loco Moto Art Collective). Costume design and construction is a BNC collaboration with puppet theatre artist Maggie Winston.

Be graceful in the wind is an inversion challenge and salute to the majestic tree.
